Nation Building When You Are In Your Casket. What John McCain & Vajpayee Saw That Others Didn’t
John McCain & Vajpayee — opposite ends of the world — one mission in death.
On August 17th, 2018 Atal Bihari Vajpayee — former prime minister and son of soil awardee of India was cremated. His daughter lit his funeral pyre. That in a nation where the “norm” is for the son to do the honors.
On September 1st, 2018 John McCain — an American statesman and former presidential Nominee was eulogized by candidates who dashed his dreams of being President.
Both these great leaders understood a power beyond life — the power of symbols that bring harmony to their soil.
In loss of their life, they build nations.
One said — parental relationships triumphs gender. Other said — civility triumphs over opposing view points.
In the eyes of their nations and for the world at large — they said no words.
What transcends them from other great leaders who came before them?
When I look up, all I see is Ernest Hemingway’s words..
“Today is only one day in all the days that will ever be. But what will happen in all the other days that ever come can depend on what you do today.”
That today was a day after they died — they lead their nations to the right balance on what matters.
Beautiful, simply beautiful.
