Good Will Hunting

an Original Script

by Matt Damon and Ben Affleck

Virginia’s Gems: What did she miss?

1. Gosh — kid is a stronger word than boy!

2. Your move, chief — the classic close is an afterthought!

3. Afraid is a good word, Terrified ups the ante. Kid is a good word, unusual yet apt word here — sport! From kid to sport to chief. What a gradual gradation.

4. Virginia gasped at the power of words — watching this video and this subtle change.

5. Banish abstract, get laser specific with example. Get concrete.

6. “The whole works” is better than any etc!

7. You must know everything about me vs. You ripped my fucking life apart. Enough said.

8. Empathic acknowledgement is a better insert — even inside a candid lecture

9. Best for last — Virginia closed off with satisfaction. Matt and Ben were like her — light on the power words, young in their ways and yet strong in the content.

10. Virgina knew — great content’s nascent word choices can be elevated. Not vice versa.
