2 Clever Growth Hacks of EV Williams. Why Didn’t I Think Of That?

Two months ago, I wrote about the yin and yang of EV Williams. If you do not know who he is, this blog may not interest you.

What he actually did is something I did not think of. He found a solution to growth hack a metering model by doubling down on technology bets.

  1. Distribution = Reach. Reach is money and the best way to do that is through publications. What happens if you give writers the option to meter behind publications ? What happens when you nudge the editors that metered stories will get priority for promotion? You can suddenly outsource the curator’s work and double-up on what is working. Win-win on all directions. Recent tech change made this happen.

Now, all EV Williams needs to do is to build the brand name as strong as Google. Then his real growth hacking starts.

I am rubbing my hands in anticipation- a brand new model that mirrors Netflix and not Youtube for writing.
